EcoFlow PowerOcean in Sussex
What EcoFlow PowerOcean means for a Sussex home, how it compares with the systems we fit, and a written answer on supply, installation and warranty if it is the one you want.
Our Sussex coverage runs through Horsham, Crawley and Haywards Heath, three towns with very different houses, and the EcoFlow PowerOcean lands differently in each. Horsham district is 37.2% detached; Crawley’s largest housing type is the terrace, at 37.4% of households (Census 2021). The county page is solar panels in Sussex; the town pages are battery storage in Horsham, Crawley and Haywards Heath; and sizing in general is covered under battery storage.
On the brand itself, the battery system in HCE’s own job photos is EnSmart; if an EcoFlow PowerOcean is what you want, ask us and we will confirm in writing how it would be supplied, who installs and commissions it, and what warranty attaches. That written answer is worth having whichever company quotes, because EcoFlow’s 15-year warranty depends on registration and correct installation.
Quick answer
EcoFlow PowerOcean in Sussex:
- Our own work: the battery systems in HCE's own job photos are EnSmart; if EcoFlow PowerOcean is what you want, ask us and we will confirm in writing how it would be supplied, who installs and commissions it, and what warranty attaches.
- Cost: the Energy Saving Trust puts home battery storage at £1,500 to £10,000, with a 5 kWh system at around £4,600; a quote for your home comes from a survey of your usage.
- VAT: residential battery installations carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, then 5% from 1 April 2027.
- Grid: every battery is notified to, or approved by, the local network operator depending on its size (G98 or G99); the installer handles it.
- Power cuts: a standard grid-tied battery shuts down when the grid does; backup has to be designed in and is never assumed.
- Who fits it: HCE is a NAPIT member (73495), MCS-certified for solar PV and battery storage via NAPIT, and a HIES Consumer Code member.

How a home battery gets fitted in Sussex
Four steps from first call to switch-on. No pressure at any stage, and a straight answer if it would not pay its way.
- Step 1
Your usage, not a guess
We look at when your Sussex home uses power, especially evenings, and your tariff, because that, not the sunniest month, decides the battery size.
- Step 2
Sizing and siting
Where the unit can go (garage, utility room or an outside wall, as the manufacturer allows), whether it pairs with existing panels, and a written, itemised quote.
- Step 3
Installation and notification
Fitting and commissioning, with the battery notified to or approved by your network operator depending on its size. Backup in a power cut only if it is designed in.
- Step 4
Settings and handover
Charge and discharge set up around your tariff, the app explained, and the warranty documents in your hand.
How EcoFlow PowerOcean fits Sussex homes
In Horsham district, where 72.3% of households own their home, the PowerOcean’s floor-standing option and IP65 enclosure suit a garage or an outside wall beside the meter. Crawley is a New Town of terraces and flats, so siting takes more thought: a terrace often has no garage, and the external-wall option with built-in heating is the one to test at survey. In Haywards Heath 27.3% of households live in purpose-built flats, where the freeholder decides before any stack goes up.
All three town centres are on UK Power Networks’ South Eastern network, so the connection follows UKPN’s route: below 16 A per phase (3.68 kW) the installer notifies under G98, above it a G99 approval comes first, and UKPN says that if the maximum export after any export limitation is under 5 kW it approves the application automatically. With a PowerOcean, the inverter set-up and any export limit decide which of those applies, and a quote should say which.
Sussex: sunshine, the grid and local uptake
PVGIS gives the three towns a similar winter: about 139 to 146 kWh in December for a 4 kWp south-facing array, against about 493 kWh in June at Crawley and 526 kWh at Haywards Heath. Our arithmetic puts December at under a third of June in each, which is why one or two 5 kWh packs, sized to the evening, is the usual starting point rather than a stack sized for winter. DESNZ records about 5,845 solar PV installations across Mid Sussex and 4,976 across Horsham district (end of 2025), and DVLA counts about 5,430 privately kept plug-in vehicles in Mid Sussex, up from 4,027 a year earlier.
Ofgem’s 2024/25 figures for South Eastern Power Networks show about 42.2 supply interruptions per 100 customers and about 30.4 minutes lost per customer over the year, down from 49.5 and 36.5 the year before. They are averages across the whole licence area.

EcoFlow PowerOcean in Sussex: questions
Is a PowerOcean a sensible battery for a Crawley terrace?
It can be, if there is a suitable place for it. Many Crawley terraces have no garage, so the IP65 enclosure and external-wall mounting are what make it possible; the survey checks the wall, the distance to the consumer unit and access for maintenance. If the only practical spot does not meet the siting rules, a different layout or product is the honest answer.
Does UK Power Networks need to approve a PowerOcean in Horsham or Haywards Heath?
Every installation is reported to UK Power Networks, which serves all three town centres. Up to 16 A per phase it is a G98 notification; above that, a G99 approval comes before the work. UKPN also says that if the maximum export after export limitation is under 5 kW, it approves the application automatically. The installer handles the forms.
Will HCE quote for an EcoFlow PowerOcean in Sussex?
The battery system in HCE’s own job photos is EnSmart. If a PowerOcean is your preference, ask and we will confirm in writing how it would be supplied, who installs and commissions it, and what warranty attaches.
