For most Haslemere homes, no — roof-mounted solar on a house is permitted development in England, and that generally holds inside conservation areas too. Haslemere has two: the Town Centre Conservation Area, designated in 1974 and extended in 1975, 1985 and 2005 across the historic core where High Street, Petworth Road and Lower Street meet, and the Springhead and River Wey Conservation Area, joined into a single area in 2020. Rarely pointless, but often decisive in the design. They tilt it in your favour, for two unglamorous reasons. We ran the European Commission's PVGIS tool for Haslemere itself rather than quoting a generic figure: a 4 kWp array at 35° facing due south, with 14% system losses, is estimated at about 4,070 kWh a year — around 1,018 kWh per kWp — with a year-to-year variation of roughly ±128 kWh (PVGIS 5.3, SARAH3 2005–2023).
