EnSmart Battery Installation in Surrey
EnSmart batteries for Surrey homes, sized from your actual usage, with the grid paperwork, the seasons and the power-cut reality explained before you commit.
The storage cabinets in our own job photos are EnSmart SolarAll units, which is why this is the battery we can talk about from the installation side rather than the brochure. We fit the EnSmart SolarAll range — the SolarAll-H hybrid inverter with stackable ELV lithium packs — for homes across Surrey, and the county’s housing gives it plenty to work with: 32.2% of Surrey households lived in detached houses at the 2021 Census, with another 29.2% in semis.
This page keeps to how EnSmart fits Surrey specifically: which pack suits which house, which of the county’s two network operators gets the paperwork, and what PVGIS says a Surrey roof makes in December. For the wider picture start with solar panels in Surrey and our battery storage guide; for town detail, see battery storage in Guildford, Farnham or Reigate.
Quick answer
EnSmart in Surrey:
- Our own work: EnSmart is the battery system in HCE's own job photos; the survey confirms whether it suits your home before anything is quoted.
- Cost: the Energy Saving Trust puts home battery storage at £1,500 to £10,000, with a 5 kWh system at around £4,600; a quote for your home comes from a survey of your usage.
- VAT: residential battery installations carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, then 5% from 1 April 2027.
- Grid: every battery is notified to, or approved by, the local network operator depending on its size (G98 or G99); the installer handles it.
- Power cuts: a standard grid-tied battery shuts down when the grid does; backup has to be designed in and is never assumed.
- Who fits it: HCE is a NAPIT member (73495), MCS-certified for solar PV and battery storage via NAPIT, and a HIES Consumer Code member.

How a home battery gets fitted in Surrey
Four steps from first call to switch-on. No pressure at any stage, and a straight answer if it would not pay its way.
- Step 1
Your usage, not a guess
We look at when your Surrey home uses power, especially evenings, and your tariff, because that, not the sunniest month, decides the battery size.
- Step 2
Sizing and siting
Where the unit can go (garage, utility room or an outside wall, as the manufacturer allows), whether it pairs with existing panels, and a written, itemised quote.
- Step 3
Installation and notification
Fitting and commissioning, with the battery notified to or approved by your network operator depending on its size. Backup in a power cut only if it is designed in.
- Step 4
Settings and handover
Charge and discharge set up around your tariff, the app explained, and the warranty documents in your hand.
How EnSmart fits Surrey homes
A detached or semi-detached Surrey house usually has the one thing the EnSmart wall pack needs: an indoor space. The ELV-W pack is rated IP50, which means indoor only, so the integral garage, the utility room or the understairs cupboard is where it goes; the SolarAll-H inverter is IP65 and can sit inside or on an outside wall, which helps when the consumer unit and the garage are at opposite ends of the house. Where there is no indoor room to spare, EnSmart’s floor-standing ELV-F packs (15 kWh and 20 kWh, IP55) are rated for indoor use or outdoors away from direct sunlight. In Surrey Heath, where 43.7% of households live in detached houses, the garage is usually the first place we look; in Elmbridge, with 20.7% of households in purpose-built flats, the freeholder’s consent comes before any siting question.
Surrey is also a county of two networks. Most of the town centres on our pages, Guildford, Epsom, Reigate, Dorking and Redhill among them, sit in UK Power Networks’ South Eastern Power Networks area; Farnham, Camberley, Godalming, Haslemere, Egham, Virginia Water and Staines-upon-Thames sit in SSEN’s Southern Electric Power Distribution area, several of them within 2 km of the line, so the exact operator is confirmed by postcode. Either way the rule is the same: EnSmart publishes the single-phase SolarAll-H at 3–6 kW, and G98 covers type-tested equipment only up to 16 A per phase (3.68 kW). The smaller sizes can be notified after commissioning; a larger inverter needs a G99 application approved before we start, and we check the ENA type-test register entry for the exact model first.
Surrey: sunshine, the grid and local uptake
Across the 22 Surrey towns we have battery pages for, PVGIS puts a 4 kWp south-facing array at about 130 kWh in December (Guildford) to 140 kWh (Cranleigh and Dorking), against about 479 kWh (Camberley) to 501 kWh (Cranleigh) in June. Godalming is the exception in December: its town-centre point sits in the Wey valley, where PVGIS’s terrain horizon cuts it to about 74 kWh; homes on higher ground or with an open southern view do better. On our arithmetic the other towns make roughly 4.2 to 4.5 kWh on an average December day, less than a single 5.12 kWh ELV-W pack holds, which is why we size an EnSmart system to the evening load rather than to winter self-sufficiency. DESNZ records about 32,212 solar PV installations of every size across the 11 Surrey councils those towns sit in (end of 2025, our sum), and DVLA about 45,040 privately kept plug-in vehicles, up from about 34,861 a year earlier (our sum).
On reliability, Ofgem’s 2024/25 figures show about 42.2 supply interruptions per 100 customers and about 30.4 minutes lost per customer for South Eastern Power Networks, and about 41.8 interruptions and 51.2 minutes for Southern Electric Power Distribution, planned and unplanned. Those are licence-area averages, not a forecast for your street, and a SolarAll system only keeps circuits running in an outage if it is designed and wired for backup.

EnSmart in Surrey: questions
Which EnSmart battery suits a detached Surrey house with a garage?
Usually the wall-mounted ELV-W, in 5.12 kWh or 10.24 kWh packs, because it is IP50 and indoor-only and a garage is the obvious indoor space. The SolarAll-H inverter (IP65) can go beside it or on an outside wall. Packs stack, so a Surrey home can start with one and add another later rather than buying the largest size on day one. The size itself comes from your evening usage at the survey.
Is my Surrey home on UK Power Networks or SSEN, and does it change anything?
It depends on the town: Guildford, Epsom and Reigate town centres are on UK Power Networks’ South Eastern network, while Farnham, Camberley and Godalming are on SSEN’s Southern Electric Power Distribution area, and several towns sit close to the line, so we confirm your postcode. The paperwork works the same way on both: G98 notification for equipment up to 16 A per phase (3.68 kW), a G99 approval before work for anything larger. We handle it either way.
Will an EnSmart system keep my Surrey home powered in a power cut?
Only if it is designed for it. EnSmart lists a built-in UPS function with a 10-millisecond switchover on the SolarAll-H, but a standard grid-tied installation shuts down with the grid as a safety measure. Keeping selected circuits live needs a backup design and dedicated wiring, priced separately. Tell us at the survey what you would want to run and we will say plainly whether it is worth it.
