The Civic Centre received a rooftop array in early 2022, expected to generate as much as 57,000 kWh a year — enough to power 20 average homes — and save 11.5 tonnes of CO2 annually; Hart Leisure Centre followed in January 2025 with an installation projected to save around 32 tonnes of CO2 and roughly £44,932 a year. The most recent round has closed to new registrations, with future rounds anticipated, so check the council's Solar Together page for the current position. There's nothing stopping you registering interest in a future round and getting an independent quote in parallel — a group price is a useful benchmark to hold any installer's number against, including ours. The council has also been installing its own panels in Fleet, at the Civic Centre in 2022 and Hart Leisure Centre in January 2025, so the direction of travel locally is clear.

I live on a newer estate like Elvetham Heath — is solar still worth it?
Often yes, but for different reasons than in older stock. Elvetham Heath was completed in 2008 and Hartland Village is being built now, so these homes are already well insulated; the gains come less from offsetting heating and more from covering everyday electricity use — and, with a battery, shifting self-generated or cheap-rate power into the evening. Newer roofs also tend to be structurally straightforward. Two practical checks before committing: leaseholders in apartments will normally need the freeholder's consent before anything is fixed to the roof, and it's worth reading your deeds for any estate-specific covenants. The permitted development rules themselves are the same as for the rest of Fleet.
