Battery storage — Bedfordshire
Fox ESS Battery Storage in Bedfordshire
What Fox ESS means for a Bedfordshire home, how it compares with the systems we fit, and a written answer on supply, installation and warranty if it is the one you want.
Bedfordshire is house country, with nearly nine in ten Central Bedfordshire households in a house of their own, which gives a modular battery somewhere to go. This page looks at how Fox ESS’s range, set out on our Fox ESS page, would fit Luton, Bedford, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard and Biggleswade, alongside solar panels in Bedfordshire and our battery storage guide.
The battery system in HCE’s own job photos is EnSmart; if Fox ESS is what you want, ask us and we will confirm in writing how it would be supplied, who installs and commissions it, and what warranty attaches. Each town’s own figures are on battery storage in Bedford, home batteries in Luton and Leighton Buzzard battery installation advice.
Quick answer
Fox ESS in Bedfordshire:
- Our own work: the battery systems in HCE's own job photos are EnSmart; if Fox ESS is what you want, ask us and we will confirm in writing how it would be supplied, who installs and commissions it, and what warranty attaches.
- Cost: the Energy Saving Trust puts home battery storage at £1,500 to £10,000, with a 5 kWh system at around £4,600; a quote for your home comes from a survey of your usage.
- VAT: residential battery installations carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, then 5% from 1 April 2027.
- Grid: every battery is notified to, or approved by, the local network operator depending on its size (G98 or G99); the installer handles it.
- Power cuts: a standard grid-tied battery shuts down when the grid does; backup has to be designed in and is never assumed.
- Who fits it: HCE is a NAPIT member (73495), MCS-certified for solar PV and battery storage via NAPIT, and a HIES Consumer Code member.

How a home battery gets fitted in Bedfordshire
Four steps from first call to switch-on. No pressure at any stage, and a straight answer if it would not pay its way.
- Step 1
Your usage, not a guess
We look at when your Bedfordshire home uses power, especially evenings, and your tariff, because that, not the sunniest month, decides the battery size.
- Step 2
Sizing and siting
Where the unit can go (garage, utility room or an outside wall, as the manufacturer allows), whether it pairs with existing panels, and a written, itemised quote.
- Step 3
Installation and notification
Fitting and commissioning, with the battery notified to or approved by your network operator depending on its size. Backup in a power cut only if it is designed in.
- Step 4
Settings and handover
Charge and discharge set up around your tariff, the app explained, and the warranty documents in your hand.
How Fox ESS fits Bedfordshire homes
At the 2021 Census Central Bedfordshire’s 120,755 households were 29.3% detached, 34.4% semi-detached and 23.4% terraced, about 87.1% houses (our sum), and Bedford borough’s were 27.8% detached and 33.0% semi. Luton is semi territory: 40.3% of its households live in semis, the highest share of the three, though 29.0% rent privately, so the landlord decides for many. A semi with a side return or garage often has room for a Fox ESS EP5, 380 × 625 × 147 mm and about 50.5 kg, wall- or floor-mounted, with the 22 kg H1-G2 inverter on the wall beside it; both are IP65 for indoor or outdoor use. The 300 mm clearance and ventilation Fox ESS’s warranty asks for still apply.
UK Power Networks says most of Bedfordshire is on its Eastern Power Networks area, and all five town centres on this site are; Leighton Buzzard is about 4.5 km from the National Grid East Midlands boundary, so homes on the western edge should check their postcode. G98 covers equipment up to 16 A per phase (3.68 kW), notified within 28 days of commissioning; above that, G99 approval comes first. UK Power Networks says there is nothing to pay it if no upgrade is needed, and that the installer contacts it for the homeowner. Fox ESS lists its 3.7 kW H1-G2 at 3,680 VA for G98.
Bedfordshire: sunshine, the grid and local uptake
PVGIS puts a 4 kWp south-facing array at about 133 to 141 kWh in December across Luton, Bedford, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard and Biggleswade, and about 477 to 480 kWh in June. That is about 4.3 to 4.5 kWh a day in December and 15.9 to 16.0 kWh in June (our arithmetic). The spread between towns is smaller than the difference roof direction and shading make.
DESNZ records about 16,664 solar PV installations across Luton, Bedford and Central Bedfordshire at the end of 2025 (our sum), 8,915 of them in Central Bedfordshire, and DVLA about 20,313 privately kept plug-in vehicles at the end of June 2026, up from 13,913 a year earlier. Ofgem’s 2024/25 figures for Eastern Power Networks show about 44.6 supply interruptions per 100 customers and 32.5 minutes lost per customer, against 39.7 and 35.1 across Great Britain. A Fox ESS system powers chosen circuits in a cut only where EPS is designed in, up to the inverter’s 3 to 6 kW rating.

Fox ESS in Bedfordshire: questions
Is a Luton semi a good fit for a Fox ESS battery?
Often. 40.3% of Luton households live in semis, which often have a side wall or garage where an EP5 and the H1-G2 inverter can be mounted; both are IP65 for indoor or outdoor use. If you are one of the 29.0% of Luton households renting privately, the landlord has to agree first. The warranty’s 300 mm clearance and ventilation conditions decide the exact spot.
My home near Leighton Buzzard might be on a different network. Does that matter for Fox ESS?
Check it, but the rules do not change. Leighton Buzzard town centre is in UK Power Networks’ Eastern area, about 4.5 km from National Grid’s East Midlands area, so some nearby addresses may be on the other network. G98 and G99 apply either way; what differs is who receives the notification. The Energy Networks Association’s postcode tool settles it.
How long does a Fox ESS battery warranty last in practice?
Ten years on an EP-series battery under Fox ESS’s UK policy V4.5, or until a throughput limit, whichever comes first: 38.85 MWh on the 10.36 kWh EP11. At one full cycle a day that limit arrives at about ten years; at two cycles a day, solar plus an overnight tariff, at about five (our arithmetic). The inverter is separate: 10 years if connected to Fox Cloud within 120 days of installation and kept connected, otherwise 5.
