Battery storage — Berkshire
EcoFlow PowerOcean in Berkshire
What EcoFlow PowerOcean means for a Berkshire home, how it compares with the systems we fit, and a written answer on supply, installation and warranty if it is the one you want.
Berkshire is a county of two housing stories, and the EcoFlow PowerOcean reads differently in each: Wokingham borough is 42.7% detached with 76.0% owning their home, while Reading has 31.9% of households renting privately (Census 2021). Start with solar panels in Berkshire for the county, see battery storage in Wokingham, Reading and Maidenhead for the towns, and our battery storage guide for sizing.
The battery system in HCE’s own job photos is EnSmart; if an EcoFlow PowerOcean is what you want, ask us and we will confirm in writing how it would be supplied, who installs and commissions it, and what warranty attaches. For a rented home in Reading or a leasehold flat in Windsor, the landlord’s or freeholder’s agreement comes before either question.
Quick answer
EcoFlow PowerOcean in Berkshire:
- Our own work: the battery systems in HCE's own job photos are EnSmart; if EcoFlow PowerOcean is what you want, ask us and we will confirm in writing how it would be supplied, who installs and commissions it, and what warranty attaches.
- Cost: the Energy Saving Trust puts home battery storage at £1,500 to £10,000, with a 5 kWh system at around £4,600; a quote for your home comes from a survey of your usage.
- VAT: residential battery installations carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, then 5% from 1 April 2027.
- Grid: every battery is notified to, or approved by, the local network operator depending on its size (G98 or G99); the installer handles it.
- Power cuts: a standard grid-tied battery shuts down when the grid does; backup has to be designed in and is never assumed.
- Who fits it: HCE is a NAPIT member (73495), MCS-certified for solar PV and battery storage via NAPIT, and a HIES Consumer Code member.

How a home battery gets fitted in Berkshire
Four steps from first call to switch-on. No pressure at any stage, and a straight answer if it would not pay its way.
- Step 1
Your usage, not a guess
We look at when your Berkshire home uses power, especially evenings, and your tariff, because that, not the sunniest month, decides the battery size.
- Step 2
Sizing and siting
Where the unit can go (garage, utility room or an outside wall, as the manufacturer allows), whether it pairs with existing panels, and a written, itemised quote.
- Step 3
Installation and notification
Fitting and commissioning, with the battery notified to or approved by your network operator depending on its size. Backup in a power cut only if it is designed in.
- Step 4
Settings and handover
Charge and discharge set up around your tariff, the app explained, and the warranty documents in your hand.
How EcoFlow PowerOcean fits Berkshire homes
Wokingham’s detached and semi-detached houses, 71.9% of households between them (our sum), are the natural PowerOcean homes: a garage wall or floor takes the stack, and the add-a-pack design suits a household that expects an EV. Maidenhead’s built-up area is 31.1% detached but 22.5% purpose-built flats, and EPC records for the SL4 postcode district show roughly a third of Windsor homes are flats. Bracknell Forest leans to terraces, at 28.8% of households, where the IP65 wall-mount option is usually the one assessed.
Every Berkshire town centre we cover is on SSEN’s Southern Electric network, and Reading’s sits 24.6 km from the nearest other licence area. Connection follows G98 up to 16 A per phase (3.68 kW) and G99 approval before work above it, with SSEN aiming to answer fast-track applications within 10 working days. A PowerOcean quote should state which applies to the inverter proposed, since a single-phase unit is published at 6 kW of off-grid output.
Berkshire: sunshine, the grid and local uptake
PVGIS gives a 4 kWp south-facing array about 135 kWh in December at Maidenhead and about 140 kWh at Windsor; in June it runs from about 478 kWh at Reading to 482 kWh at Windsor and Maidenhead. DESNZ records about 5,883 solar PV installations (58.48 MW) across Wokingham borough and 3,853 across Bracknell Forest (end of 2025). DVLA counts about 8,175 privately kept plug-in vehicles in Wokingham, up from 6,025 a year earlier; in Windsor and Maidenhead almost all plug-in registrations are company vehicles, so the household figure is the 5,973 privately kept.
Ofgem’s 2024/25 figures for Southern Electric Power Distribution, which covers all six towns, show about 41.8 supply interruptions per 100 customers and about 51.2 minutes lost per customer over the year. That is a licence-area average across central southern England, not a Berkshire figure.

EcoFlow PowerOcean in Berkshire: questions
I rent in Reading. Can I have a PowerOcean fitted?
Only with your landlord’s agreement, because a battery is fixed to the building and connected to its supply. With 31.9% of Reading households renting privately, that conversation comes first for many. If your landlord agrees, the survey covers siting, the SSEN paperwork and how the warranty would be registered.
How many PowerOcean packs suit a detached house in Wokingham?
That comes from your consumption data, not the house type. The PowerOcean scales in 5 kWh steps to 20 kWh on one single-phase inverter, so a household can start with what it cycles each evening and add packs later. Oversizing is a common way to waste money on a battery.
Does HCE supply EcoFlow PowerOcean in Berkshire?
The battery system in HCE’s own job photos is EnSmart. If you want a PowerOcean, ask us and we will confirm in writing how it would be supplied, who installs and commissions it, and what warranty attaches.
