Tesla Powerwall in Hampshire
What Tesla Powerwall means for a Hampshire home, how it compares with the systems we fit, and a written answer on supply, installation and warranty if it is the one you want.
All six Hampshire towns on our pages, from Farnborough and Fleet to Basingstoke, Alton and Petersfield, have their town centres on one network, SSEN’s Southern Electric Power Distribution area, so the grid paperwork for a Tesla Powerwall 3 works the same way across the patch. What changes from town to town is the house, and in Petersfield the planning authority. This page sets the Powerwall against both. For the roofs, see solar panels in Hampshire; for storage in general, our battery storage guide; and for the towns, battery storage in Fleet, Basingstoke and Petersfield.
The battery system in HCE’s own job photos is EnSmart; if Tesla Powerwall is what you want, ask us and we will confirm in writing how it would be supplied, who installs and commissions it, and what warranty attaches. Tesla’s warranty is conditional on exactly that: it applies to a Powerwall “purchased from Tesla or a Tesla certified installer”, and installation, commissioning or repair by anyone other than Tesla or a Tesla certified installer is listed among the grounds on which it may be voided. Check any Hampshire company quoting you, HCE included, in Tesla’s certified-installer finder before you commit.
Quick answer
Tesla Powerwall in Hampshire:
- Our own work: the battery systems in HCE's own job photos are EnSmart; if Tesla Powerwall is what you want, ask us and we will confirm in writing how it would be supplied, who installs and commissions it, and what warranty attaches.
- Cost: the Energy Saving Trust puts home battery storage at £1,500 to £10,000, with a 5 kWh system at around £4,600; a quote for your home comes from a survey of your usage.
- VAT: residential battery installations carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, then 5% from 1 April 2027.
- Grid: every battery is notified to, or approved by, the local network operator depending on its size (G98 or G99); the installer handles it.
- Power cuts: a standard grid-tied battery shuts down when the grid does; backup has to be designed in and is never assumed.
- Who fits it: HCE is a NAPIT member (73495), MCS-certified for solar PV and battery storage via NAPIT, and a HIES Consumer Code member.

How a home battery gets fitted in Hampshire
Four steps from first call to switch-on. No pressure at any stage, and a straight answer if it would not pay its way.
- Step 1
Your usage, not a guess
We look at when your Hampshire home uses power, especially evenings, and your tariff, because that, not the sunniest month, decides the battery size.
- Step 2
Sizing and siting
Where the unit can go (garage, utility room or an outside wall, as the manufacturer allows), whether it pairs with existing panels, and a written, itemised quote.
- Step 3
Installation and notification
Fitting and commissioning, with the battery notified to or approved by your network operator depending on its size. Backup in a power cut only if it is designed in.
- Step 4
Settings and handover
Charge and discharge set up around your tariff, the app explained, and the warranty documents in your hand.
How Tesla Powerwall fits Hampshire homes
Fleet is the easy case. In its three wards 45.4% of households live in detached houses and 73.7% own their home (Census 2021), so an integral garage or utility room near the consumer unit usually takes a Powerwall without fuss: 1105 × 609 × 193 mm, 130 kg, floor or wall mounted. Rushmoor, which holds Farnborough and Aldershot, is more mixed: semis are the largest group at 32.1%, and terraces (23.5%) and purpose-built flats (23.2%) make up nearly half the homes. A mid-terrace with no side access leaves a rear wall, which the Powerwall’s IP55 enclosure and IP67-rated battery allow, and a flat needs the freeholder’s consent first. In Alton and Petersfield, where terraces are 21.4% and 23.0% of households, the same choice comes up in the streets nearer the centre.
Petersfield lies wholly inside the South Downs National Park, and the National Park Authority, not East Hampshire District Council, is its planning authority. A Powerwall in a garage changes nothing outside; one fixed to an outside wall in The Square conservation area, or on a listed building, is worth checking with the Authority before anyone drills. On the grid side, the Powerwall’s output is set between 3.68 kW and 11.04 kW. At 3.68 kW or below the installer notifies SSEN under G98 within 28 days of commissioning; above that a G99 application is approved before work starts, and SSEN states it aims to answer fast-track applications within 10 working days. If your home already has panels, the installer works out whether the property as a whole stays within G98.
Hampshire: sunshine, the grid and local uptake
PVGIS gives a 4 kWp south-facing array between about 136 kWh (Basingstoke) and 139 kWh (Fleet and Petersfield) in December, and between about 482 kWh (Fleet and Aldershot) and 506 kWh (Petersfield) in June: about 4.4 to 4.5 kWh a day in midwinter and 16.1 to 16.9 kWh in midsummer (our arithmetic). Petersfield’s June figure is the highest of the six. Even there, a Powerwall’s 13.5 kWh fills from solar on a good summer day and not in December.
DESNZ records 7,356 solar PV installations across East Hampshire, 5,437 across Basingstoke and Deane, 3,868 across Hart and 1,998 across Rushmoor at the end of 2025, 18,659 in all (our sum). Privately kept plug-in vehicles across the four councils rose from 12,452 to 17,497 in the year to June 2026 (our sum), the Rushmoor share counted on private keepers only because most of its registrations are company vehicles. Ofgem’s 2024/25 figures for Southern Electric Power Distribution show about 41.8 supply interruptions per 100 customers and 51.2 minutes lost per customer, against 39.7 and 35.1 across all GB licence areas. A Powerwall supplies a home through an outage only when a Backup Gateway 2 is in the design.

Tesla Powerwall in Hampshire: questions
Can I put a Powerwall on an outside wall in Petersfield?
Physically, yes: it is rated IP55, with IP67 on the battery and power electronics. Petersfield is wholly inside the South Downs National Park, though, and the National Park Authority handles planning there. A unit inside a garage or utility room changes nothing outside; one on an outside wall of a listed building, or facing the street in The Square conservation area, should be checked with the Authority first.
Which network approves a Powerwall in Basingstoke, Fleet or Farnborough?
SSEN, whose Southern Electric Power Distribution area covers the town centres of all six Hampshire towns on our pages. A Powerwall set at 3.68 kW or below is notified within 28 days under G98; a higher output needs a G99 approval before installation, and SSEN says it aims to answer fast-track applications within 10 working days. The installer submits the forms.
Will a Powerwall fill up from solar in a Hampshire winter?
Not from a typical roof. PVGIS gives a 4 kWp south-facing array in these towns about 136 to 139 kWh in December, roughly 4.4 to 4.5 kWh a day (our arithmetic), against the Powerwall’s 13.5 kWh. In June the same array averages over 16 kWh a day. That is why a Powerwall is sized to your evening use, and why winter charging is a tariff decision.
Is the Tesla warranty affected by who fits a Powerwall in Hampshire?
Yes. Tesla’s European warranty applies to a Powerwall purchased from Tesla or a Tesla certified installer, and lists installation, commissioning or repair by anyone else among the grounds on which cover may be voided. Ask every company quoting you, us included, how the unit would be supplied and what warranty attaches, in writing, and check Tesla’s certified-installer finder.
