Battery storage — North London
EcoFlow PowerOcean in North London
What EcoFlow PowerOcean means for a North London home, how it compares with the systems we fit, and a written answer on supply, installation and warranty if it is the one you want.
North London runs from the semis of Havering and Harrow to blocks of flats in Wembley Park, and the EcoFlow PowerOcean fits the first far more easily than the second: 41.2% of Havering’s households live in semis, while 98.2% of Wembley Park ward households live in purpose-built flats (Census 2021). The area page is solar panels in north London; the town battery pages for Barnet, Harrow and Romford go further; and battery storage explains sizing.
On supply, the battery system in HCE’s own job photos is EnSmart; if an EcoFlow PowerOcean is what you want, ask us and we will confirm in writing how it would be supplied, who installs and commissions it, and what warranty attaches. That letter should sit beside EcoFlow’s full UK warranty document when you compare quotes.
Quick answer
EcoFlow PowerOcean in North London:
- Our own work: the battery systems in HCE's own job photos are EnSmart; if EcoFlow PowerOcean is what you want, ask us and we will confirm in writing how it would be supplied, who installs and commissions it, and what warranty attaches.
- Cost: the Energy Saving Trust puts home battery storage at £1,500 to £10,000, with a 5 kWh system at around £4,600; a quote for your home comes from a survey of your usage.
- VAT: residential battery installations carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, then 5% from 1 April 2027.
- Grid: every battery is notified to, or approved by, the local network operator depending on its size (G98 or G99); the installer handles it.
- Power cuts: a standard grid-tied battery shuts down when the grid does; backup has to be designed in and is never assumed.
- Who fits it: HCE is a NAPIT member (73495), MCS-certified for solar PV and battery storage via NAPIT, and a HIES Consumer Code member.

How a home battery gets fitted in North London
Four steps from first call to switch-on. No pressure at any stage, and a straight answer if it would not pay its way.
- Step 1
Your usage, not a guess
We look at when your North London home uses power, especially evenings, and your tariff, because that, not the sunniest month, decides the battery size.
- Step 2
Sizing and siting
Where the unit can go (garage, utility room or an outside wall, as the manufacturer allows), whether it pairs with existing panels, and a written, itemised quote.
- Step 3
Installation and notification
Fitting and commissioning, with the battery notified to or approved by your network operator depending on its size. Backup in a power cut only if it is designed in.
- Step 4
Settings and handover
Charge and discharge set up around your tariff, the app explained, and the warranty documents in your hand.
How EcoFlow PowerOcean fits North London homes
The semi-detached streets are the PowerOcean’s ground here. In Kenton West ward 64.7% of households live in semis and 74.8% own their home, and the side return or garage of a semi can often take a floor-standing stack. Further in, Muswell Hill ward has 32.6% of households in converted or shared houses and Enfield borough 30.4% in purpose-built flats; UK Power Networks says storage on a multi-occupied building needs the building owner’s permission first, so the PowerOcean question there begins with the freeholder.
Most of the town centres we cover, from Barnet and Harrow to Enfield, Chingford and Romford, sit in UK Power Networks’ Eastern area; Walthamstow’s is on London Power Networks, and Hendon, Wembley and Tottenham are close enough to a boundary that the postcode decides. The thresholds are the same everywhere: G98 notification up to 16 A per phase (3.68 kW), G99 approval before work above it, and automatic UKPN approval where export after limitation is under 5 kW, which matters for a PowerOcean whose single-phase off-grid output is published at 6 kW.
North London: sunshine, the grid and local uptake
PVGIS gives a 4 kWp south-facing array about 138 kWh in December at Edgware to 143 kWh at Tottenham and Romford, and about 474 kWh in June at Edgware to 489 kWh at Romford. DESNZ records about 3,928 solar PV installations across Havering and 3,477 across Barnet (end of 2025). DVLA counts about 12,097 privately kept plug-in vehicles in Barnet, up from 10,089 a year earlier, and 7,524 in Harrow, up from 5,934; the PowerOcean’s add-a-pack design is aimed at exactly that kind of change in a household’s load.
Ofgem’s 2024/25 figures for Eastern Power Networks show about 44.6 supply interruptions per 100 customers and about 32.5 minutes lost per customer; for London Power Networks, about 11.2 and 10.5. Both are averages over the whole licence area, and Eastern’s covers much of the East of England as well as this part of London.

EcoFlow PowerOcean in North London: questions
Will a PowerOcean fit beside a semi in Harrow or Romford?
Usually there is a candidate position: a garage, the side return or an outside wall near the meter. EcoFlow offers floor-standing and wall-mounted layouts and an IP65 enclosure with heating pads. The survey confirms clearances, the cable route and any fire-separation needs before a position is agreed.
Can I put a PowerOcean in a flat in Wembley or Enfield?
Not without the building owner’s permission, which UK Power Networks says is needed before storage work on a multi-occupied building. If the freeholder agrees, the next question is whether there is a safe place for the stack inside the flat or in a store you control.
Does HCE install EcoFlow in north London?
The battery system in HCE’s own job photos is EnSmart. If you want a PowerOcean, ask us and we will confirm in writing how it would be supplied, who installs and commissions it, and what warranty attaches.
