Battery storage — North London
Sigenergy SigenStor in North London
What Sigenergy means for a North London home, how it compares with the systems we fit, and a written answer on supply, installation and warranty if it is the one you want.
North and north-east London is a semi-detached and converted-house landscape, from Havering, where 41.2% of households live in semis, to Muswell Hill, where the largest group lives in converted houses. For a Sigenergy SigenStor that matters more than sunshine, because the tower needs a floor or a wall it can stand against. Our battery pages for Barnet, Harrow and Romford cover three different boroughs, and our solar panels North London page the wider area.
The battery system in HCE's own job photos is EnSmart; if a Sigenergy SigenStor is what you want, ask us and we will confirm in writing how it would be supplied, who installs and commissions it, and what warranty attaches. Our battery storage page explains how a battery is sized to the evening load.
Quick answer
Sigenergy in North London:
- Our own work: the battery systems in HCE's own job photos are EnSmart; if Sigenergy is what you want, ask us and we will confirm in writing how it would be supplied, who installs and commissions it, and what warranty attaches.
- Cost: the Energy Saving Trust puts home battery storage at £1,500 to £10,000, with a 5 kWh system at around £4,600; a quote for your home comes from a survey of your usage.
- VAT: residential battery installations carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, then 5% from 1 April 2027.
- Grid: every battery is notified to, or approved by, the local network operator depending on its size (G98 or G99); the installer handles it.
- Power cuts: a standard grid-tied battery shuts down when the grid does; backup has to be designed in and is never assumed.
- Who fits it: HCE is a NAPIT member (73495), MCS-certified for solar PV and battery storage via NAPIT, and a HIES Consumer Code member.

How a home battery gets fitted in North London
Four steps from first call to switch-on. No pressure at any stage, and a straight answer if it would not pay its way.
- Step 1
Your usage, not a guess
We look at when your North London home uses power, especially evenings, and your tariff, because that, not the sunniest month, decides the battery size.
- Step 2
Sizing and siting
Where the unit can go (garage, utility room or an outside wall, as the manufacturer allows), whether it pairs with existing panels, and a written, itemised quote.
- Step 3
Installation and notification
Fitting and commissioning, with the battery notified to or approved by your network operator depending on its size. Backup in a power cut only if it is designed in.
- Step 4
Settings and handover
Charge and discharge set up around your tariff, the app explained, and the warranty documents in your hand.
How Sigenergy fits North London homes
Harrow's 89,642 households are 37.1% semi-detached and 16.9% terraced; Brent's are 38.0% purpose-built flats and 16.5% converted or shared houses; in Muswell Hill ward 32.6% live in part of a converted house. A semi usually has a side wall or garage for a SigenStor, which Sigenergy rates IP66 and lists as floor-standing or wall-mounted, with each 767 mm module weighing 62 kg (6.02 kWh) or 78 kg (9.04 kWh). A converted house is harder: the battery serves one flat's supply and has to sit outside the living space with the freeholder's agreement. Older housing also tends to score lower on EPCs; in Harrow West the median detached house scores 58, band D, so insulation can matter as much as storage.
Thirteen of the 14 town centres in our data sit in UK Power Networks' Eastern Power Networks area; Walthamstow's is in London Power Networks, and Hendon, Tottenham and Chingford are within 1.5 km of that boundary. UK Power Networks approves automatically where maximum export after any limitation is under 5 kW, and approved installers can notify qualifying jobs within 28 days through Smart Connect. For the SigenStor, the 3.6 kW single-phase controller at 16.0 A is the G98 ceiling; a 4.0–12.0 kW single-phase controller is a G99 application accepted before work starts.
North London: sunshine, the grid and local uptake
PVGIS gives the area about 138–143 kWh in December and about 474–489 kWh in June for a 4 kWp due-south array, Edgware lowest in both months and Romford highest. December is about 29–30% of June here (our arithmetic), a little higher than south of the river. DESNZ records about 3,928 solar PV installations across Havering, 3,477 across Barnet, 3,404 across Waltham Forest and 1,682 across Haringey at the end of 2025. Privately kept plug-in vehicles reached about 12,097 in Barnet by June 2026 (from 10,089) and about 7,524 in Harrow (from 5,934); across the seven boroughs the total rose from about 38,569 to 48,090 (our sum).
Ofgem's 2024/25 figures for Eastern Power Networks show about 44.6 supply interruptions per 100 customers and about 32.5 minutes lost per customer, above Ofgem's targets of 41.8 and 30.1 for that year; London Power Networks shows about 11.2 and 10.5. These are licence-area averages. A SigenStor gives backup only when designed with the Sigen Energy Gateway.

Sigenergy in North London: questions
Can I buy a SigenStor Neo in North London yet?
As of 16 September 2026, no: Sigenergy had published no Neo datasheet, no Neo warranty document and no UK price, and the four UK stockists we checked listed no Neo. The SigenStor that can be bought and warranted in the UK is the original. Our product page keeps the dated position.
Does the 5 kW auto-approval cover a SigenStor in Harrow or Romford?
UK Power Networks automatically approves applications where maximum export after any export limitation is under 5 kW. Whether a given SigenStor configuration qualifies depends on its controller size, its export settings and any solar already at the property, which is checked at design stage.
Will a SigenStor run my home during an Eastern network outage?
Only with the Sigen Energy Gateway designed in. Without it the SigenStor shuts down with the grid like any grid-tied battery. With it, Sigenergy's datasheet gives 0 ms switchover under its stated test conditions, and output is still limited by the controller's rating.
